Ev Demand Gains Speed, Registers More Than 28 Percent Surge In Sames, Tata Motors

Electric vehicles (EV) popularity in the country is increasing. Last month, EV sales have increased by about 28.60 percent to 1,80,238 units on a year-by-year basis. It contributes to an increase in sales of electric passenger vehicles. American EV maker Tesla may also start selling electric cars in this market soon.

Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) data According to, in June, the Sales of Electric Passenger Vehicle have been of 13,178 units. Electric passenger vehicles have increased to 4.4 percent in the total markets of EVS. In June last year, the figure was 2.5 percent. Electric three-wheeler sales have 60,559 units in June. The same month of last year, it was of 52,302 units. In June, the stake of electric three-wheelers in the total sales of EVS rose to 60.2 percent.

Last month, the retail sales of electric two-wheelers increased by more than 31 percent to 1,05,355 units. It was 80,003 units in the same month of last year. The cells of electric commercial vehicles increased to 1,146 units. This is an increase of 122.5 percent as compared to June of the previous year. FDA President, CS Vigneshwar reported that sales have increased in all segments of electric mobility. The big reason behind this is PM E-Drive Scheme. The purpose of this scheme is to increase the scope of electric vehicles and make them affordable.

The world’s third largest automobile market is being tightened in India. The Central Government plans to increase the share of EVS to about 30 percent by 2030 in the total sales of cars. Tata Motors have a large stake in the market of electric passenger vehicles. Recently Tata Motors has launched an electric version of its popular SUV Harrier. The Harrier EV has some new features as well as next-generation technology. Its MIDC range is about 627 km. The initial price of Harrier Electric is about 21.49 lakh rupees (ex-showroom). Tata Motors has made a big plan for the EV segment. For this, the company will invest Rs 35,000 crore in the next five years.
