The central government has recently issued an important instruction for telecom companies. This directive has been released by the Ministry of Communications (DOT) of India on May 7, 2025, in which all telecom service providers (TSPs) and concerned officials have been asked to ensure the continuity of communication service in areas and emergency situations of the country’s border and emergency situations. The Ministry has taken this step keeping in mind national security and essential services, especially in areas where there is a possibility of natural disasters or military threats.

It is first talked about to ensure that the list of all important telecom infrastructure should be updated within the 100 km radius of the border. Along with this, reserve teams equipped with fuel reserve and necessary repair tools for diesel generator sets will have to be prepared, so that service can be restored immediately in an emergency.

The Ministry has also directed that safe movement of telecom employees and security of communication infrastructure should be ensured by coordinating with the state governments. Along with this, when the Ministry of Defense requires service on a specific date, it should be completed without any delay.

In addition, DOT has asked all telecom operators to ensure that they check the redundency of their systems and keep it in any emergency in an operational ready -to -do. This includes infrastructure, equipment and media paths. Also, ICR (Intra-circle roaming) feature should also be tested, so that it can be activated immediately when needed.

The report states that the government has also ensured that all concerned TSPS and accurate coordination and effective plans are made at the state level. DOT has also instructed all officers to send reports of preparations for any situation of emergency to the ministry from time to time.
