According to a report by Reuters, in the last few months, Tesla has imported electric vehicles, chargers and accessories worth more than 2 million dollars in India. The company has done this import from America and China. Based on the documents in this report, it has been told that it includes six units of the company’s best selling Model Y. The price of this compact electric crossover SUV will be more than Rs 27 lakh (without import duty). However, after import duty and tax of about 21 lakh rupees on this, customers may have to pay more than Rs 50 lakh for Model Y.
Tesla has hired some workers for his experience center in Mumbai. These include stores managers as well as sales and service executives. Due to importing electric cars in India, the company will have to pay import duty and other tax of about 70 percent. Musk also expressed displeasure over more import duty on imported vehicles in the country. Tesla’s sales are decreasing in major markets like the US and China. The company is getting a tough competition from China’s byd and other EV makers. Byd is already selling its electric vehicles in India.
Tesla seems likely to be a possibility of the world’s third largest automobile market in India. However, due to importing electric cars, more of their prices can become a hindrance in the company’s sales. Last month, EV sales have increased by about 28.60 percent to 1,80,238 units on a year-by-year basis. Electric passenger vehicle sales have been of 13,178 units in June. The share of electric passenger vehicles in the total markets of EVS in the country has increased to 4.4 percent. Tata Motors has the highest stake in this market.
